Nope, AO3 is the new way to go, especially with major fandoms. FF.net stopped being the main player a year or so ago.

it depends on the fandoms

things that are big now like the avengers, teen wolf, sherlock, etc.? yeah, ao3 is the way to go

random cartoons, anime, pretty much anything attracting pre-teen demographic? ff.net

FFN is currently the easier one to get membership on. AO3 is still in the invite code stage, making it slightly harder to join.

Of course, that's an issue for writers and compulsive Favouriters (like myself), not necessarily for random readers.
