While I do understand the feeling (my knee-jerk reaction is always to avoid ff.net if possible), it really depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for slash, yeah, A03's probably your best bet. If you're looking for het or gen, there's a lot more of that on ff.net.

I do agree that I much prefer the A03 layout, and for ease of reading, A03 has ff.net beat by a mile. I like to read fics as a full work rather than having to click through chapters, and it's much easier to do that on A03.

can I ask why you prefer AO3's layout? I can't stand it but I can't pinpoint why. :( But I really like chapters--I can stop somewhere, remember where I stopped...and come back later.

NA

You can read fics on AO3 as either chapters (click on view chapter by chapter) or as one piece (click entire work, which includes chapter titles and names).

AO3 has a cleaner look and I can more easily download it to my kindle for reading instead of locating, starting, and using fanfictiondownloader--it only allows for one download or have to go through steps to set it up everytime--A03 is just easier to download from (click on Download, select ebook format of choice, chose file download location, save, you're done).

AO3's adjustable to the size of my browser window (the text wraps down when I'm re-sizing the browser window smaller) while FF.net doesn't do that, which is annoying as all hell (not just for FF.net but for all sites that don't wrap the sentences down including most of LJ's styles). I find it annoying as hell to have to read across my entire laptop's screen to read something. I have to realllllllly want to read it to do that. I prefer to read in a smaller browser window that maybe takes up 1/2 my screen.

I don't worry about AO3 deciding to give in to parental demands to remove fics of a *gasp* mature rating or deleting fics that aren't up to their "standards" or b/c someone complained about it b/c of the slash, etc.

I've found it really depends on the fandom. AO3 has way more het and barely any slash or gen for one of mine.

The one thing I like on FFN is that you can switch to a dark layout - dark grey background with white text. I find that easier on my eyes (my LJ layout is midnight blue with off white text).
