Interview With A Vampire, even taking into account Brad Pitt being whiny as all get out. The book was so boring.

Schindler's List. The book is interesting, but it isn't really something you read for entertainment. Reads more like a report in some places than a novel.

Clockwork Orange. The book is pretty good, but the movie is really more approachable to everybody.

I liked the book of A Clockwork Orange so much precisely because it was so hard to figure out the dialect and so unapproachable *dons hipster glasses* But...yes, I still agree with you.

Oh yeah that's right! It's been a few years since I last reread the book and I forgot about that *shivers*

The book The Shining is way better ngl

But Louis was whiny in the book too (not my interpretation, but from others who have read it) and Anne Rice wrote the screenplay, so of course her characters are going to be in character for the movie.

And I'm going to have to disagree with you, mostly concerning Armand. But the casting was fine otherwise.

As someone who read the books up through Merrick (I'm a masochist, what can I say?) I have to say that, yes, Louis was incredibly whiny in the books. Like, to the point that you just wanted to punt his ass off a cliff to get him to stop being so damn emo all the time.

Antonio Banderas did a good job in the movie, but movie Armand is sort of a separate entity from book Armand. And at least he was better than whoever it was they cast to play Armand in Queen of the Damned. That was just, ugh.

It's funny, it had been years between my rereading of Interview and I never thought of Louis as whiny, even rereading it. Though the later books made me hate Lestat, mostly because he pissed off Marius.

Yeah, I think he did a good job, but it was mostly his age and looks that made me feel lukewarm toward his portrayal, especially since Tom Cruise and Bard Pitt at least had the right hair color or close to it and were in their 20's like Louis and Lestat. I blocked Queen of the Damned from my mind and have mostly forgotten it... lol

I think Louis actually comes off better in Interview than he does in subsequent books, since Interview is from his POV, but holy crap by the time they got to Merrick he was just insufferable. Then again, basically everyone is insufferable in anything following Tale of the Body Thief, so that's not just a Louis problem, lol. I agree about hating Lestat, though. I loved him in earlier books and was actually fine with him up until Memnoch, but after that things just got so damn weird and he was basically 5x his usual dickish selfishness with none of his somewhat redeeeming charm and... ARGH.

I can understand that. Armand was always my favorite in the books, so I was a bit WTF over him definitely not looking at all 17 or cherubic and not being auburn and curly-headed like in the book. Banderas did a passable enough job that I was able to overlook it, but I still just kind of keep book Armand and movie Armand separate in my mind, haha. Blocking out Queen of the Damned was probably the best decision. Despite Stuart Townsend and Aaliyah being pretty awesome, that movie was just a god awful mess. There is a prime example of how not to do a book adaptation if anyone ever wanted one, lol.
