I still post fic to FF.net because it's where I've been posting fic for ten years and it's easier to just stay there. Also, I prefer their layout over just about anywhere else; it's simple and easy to read, although it was nicer before their latest change. And it's a lot easier to find fic there than most places (like LJ/DW. I still have no idea how you're supposed to find anything on LJ/DW, even though I do post there too).

Yeah, there's a lot of crap on FF.net. There's a lot of crap everywhere; that's the way it works. But there's plenty of good fic and gems too, and it's really not that difficult to find them once you know what you're looking for.

I agree on the trouble finding things on LJ. Unless there's a widely-read community or newsletter for your fandom, it's next to impossible - and unless you're constantly posting new things, or it makes the right rec lists, older stuff never gets read.

Say what you will about ff.n, at least it's all in one searchable, sortable database.

Agreed. One of the reasons why I still actively use FFnet is the superior search options. I can't find shit from LJ/DW and the tagging system in AO3 is abysmal. I mean, people tag characters even if they are in there just for 2 sentences. It's so ANNOYING! You have to go through a buttload of stuff that doesn't actually concern your interests in the end but how the hell would you know whether the fic is worth checking out or not. Also, just yesterday I went into Beauty and the Beast section and was presented with CRAPLOAD of crossover fic where Beauty and the Beast was just tagged as one part of it. I don't want that. I was looking for fanfiction concerning the Disney movie and nothing else. In FFnet I never have problems like this.
