yes and i feel it's all connected, at least as far as western fandoms go.

back in metafandom's heydays, there used to be meta entries that generated 100+ comments worth of discussion and you could see the effect this sort of discussion had on fic.

i feel that before, fandom was ruled by writers/essayist and now it's riding more on visual arts? and visual arts tend to be more reductive? idk how to express my thoughts on this. because my thoughts on this are half-formed/a mess orz
