I've noticed no difference either. In my fandom at least there is *plenty* of crapfic on AO3.

Yeah, I wasn't impressed with the quality of AO3. Maybe it's because I've been using and posting to fanfiction.net ever since 2000, but I've never had a problem navigating the site and finding really great reads. Plus there's tons of obscure fandoms, and you can filter for quality when you find the right C2.

I have a hell of a time trying to filter results at AO3. Plus, I like reading about female characters and their relationships, which may be hard sometimes when the slash at AO3 is, uh, very male-dominated in terms of characters.

The way I see it, ff.net and AO3 have a similar good-to-crap ratios, it's just that the crap tends to take different forms. With ff.net you get the Mary Sues and High School AUs. AO3 has the characterisation-what-characterisation kinkfic and Coffee Shop AUs.

Navigation-wise AO3's good if you're looking for a particular pairing, but shit if you're looking for fic focussing on a specific character, as people tend to tag any character who makes an appearance. I like the fact that ff.net prompts authors to list one or two main characters and select a genre.
