This is why I mainly lurk in this fandom, just watching posts that comment on new episodes and buying a few toys/blind bags. ~In it for adorable ponies, not the people~ I've heard far too much crap about some of the fans (a sizable portion of the "Bronies" but not limited to those that call themselves that).

The majority of MLP fans aren't all horrible. I'm female (I've actually mentioned it) and frequent an MLP community and found that they are actually quite supportive and understanding. Once I introduced myself as horrible and all I was asked in return was "so...favorite pony?" . They actually have a whole subgroup devoted to being a support group.


The bad ones are really bad yes. But they are not the entire fandom.

anyway, there are definitely awesome MLP communities out there, but, in the big wild web, there are big, horrifying pockets of terribleness

Yeah. I made a typo.

Apparently since some bronies/MLP fans are sexist some people assume they all are. I never got any garbage for being female. They actually are very friendly. Also they have a whole subcommunity on Reddit for Emotional Support/Support groups. I have posted there once and all of them were really sweet.

That's been my experience too. I honestly see more people complaining about how horrible the fandom is than I do actual horrible people within the fandom. Same with Homestuck, Sherlock, and so on. Bigger fandoms are going to have more assholes. Doesn't make the whole fandom bad.

Because of something that some fan did and some of his friends defended him against that was admittedly really awful apparently now means the word "brony" is tainted and if anyone calls themselves that even if they think it's just a fan nickname they're all the sudden "a shitty person". I'm not a big fan of the term anymore but I think that's kind of dumb. Judge someone if they actually say something sexist or something. Not because they use a fan nickname that one awful guy and his friends used.

First, the entire fandom is not a shithole. Huge and infamous parts of it are but not all of it.

Second, bravo for working to make fandom better. :) Seriously. A show like this should not have any horrible fandom at all.

Also, look around for places that are nicer to hang out in than the ones you are, if you're having such a bad experience.
