-facepalm- I always get them confused, because they're both Tumblr darlings and British and posh, whatever that word means. And I think they're both brunettes. I don't know. I don't give that much thought to famous men I will never meet in real life. Most of the time. -coughChrisEvanscough-

To be fair, they're both kind of dopey looking. And their stans are hilarious.


I think they're both reasonable actors, but my word, someone needs to teach both of them how to pick decent roles. They've both had a few diamonds in the rough, but for the most part, what I've seen from both of them has been fairly consistently bad.

I've only seen War Horse, which I think has both of them, and Small Island, which has -checks IMDB- Benedict Cunberbatch, so I wouldn't know about whether their roles are good or not. But their stans are, indeed, hilarious. I have a Tumblr, used pretty much solely to collect cat gifs, and occasionally to glimpse at what teenage girls are up to today while desperate wishing I was never so ridiculous.

I quite like the Marvel movies, so Hiddleston as the baddie caught my attention, but what really did it for me was when he was Hal/Henry for the Hollow Crown series. I've always had such a boner for Shakespeare's histories, and Hal was my favourite.

Tumblr, while the plays were airing, was at once hilarious and depressing. So many people watching it just for Hiddleston, and then posting how they didn't understand "Old English" (lol) and then complaining that they didn't understand what was going on, after admitting skipping all the scenes without him in (double lol).

I sound like such a snob right now, but I don't even care. There's watching something because you like the actor, and then there's making an idiot of yourself over the actor you like.

You don't sound like a snob. Snobbery is what I demonstrated over facebook to a bunch of girls who wished David Tennant would come back to Doctor Who after his Doctor died. And seriously, how much of a show do you expect to understand if you skip every scene your "sUper hawt!!1!" actor isn't in?

Augh, it was just so ridiculous, too. There were a few blogs who would livestream stuff, and I figured that would be an easy way to watch a movie and discuss it live.

And then, yeah. I wound up leaving as soon as I realised that they weren't watching the movies, but just having a goss session with pretty boys as the backdrop.

I have a funny story about "The Hollow Crown". I was initially going to be one of Those Fans who was just watching it for Tom Hiddleston, but I wanted to know what was going on, so I made sure to watch "Richard II" and genuinely enjoyed it, Shakespearian English and all. Then I never got around to watching any of the other episodes, so completely missed all of Tom Hiddleston, i.e., the reason I wanted to watch in the first place.

I'm clever like that.

Also having watched "Richard II' means I can be a Ben Whishaw hipster and say I liked him before he was in James Bond :P

I watched Henry IV, Part 1 on YouTube, and I started giggling when I came across a comment that said "Tom's so hawt, omg" (or something to that effect) and then asked "Can someone explain what's going on in this scene? *hasn't gotten to Shakespeare yet*" They couldn't read an online synopsis if they were confused? Granted, I went in somewhat blind plotwise because I haven't read the history plays, though I knew about father&son issues and Falstaff and stuff, but I was familiar enough with Shakespeare in general to figure out what they were saying. Maybe I'm being too harsh, but there was a very easy solution to the problem.
