God forbid someone write from the point of view of an identifiable character.

No, God forbid someone write from the point of view of an identifiable character...and then muck it up by turning them into a self-insert.

I'm not saying that it's just that the easily-identifiable character is written in first-person; I'm saying that they suddenly lose their personality and start acting like a teenager who wants to get into the fandom-preferred love interest's pants.

Although, admittedly, this can happen in third-person, too. It's just that, from my experience, first-person fics are more likely to suffer from this.
