Well... we still have two whole movies to explain all his issues at length, I guess.

But no rights to the Silmarillion so Doriath probably won't come into it.

Besides, I don't think PJ really cares. Just look at the way Elrond was written in LotR. All 'I hate Men!' for no reason when that's pretty much opposite of what is in the books.

I don't think rights to the Silmarillion prevents them from referencing things that happened in it, so long as they do not directly adapt it.
