I would give so many kudos to anyone who actually managed to pull off Dickens' style. The danger would be falling into parody or pastiche or crappiness.

Yes, Dickens' style is overly verbose, but it's also entertaining, warm, humorous, and full of personality. I can deal with that, personally. I love Dickens and other 19th century novelists, and one of the my favorite fantasy series is essentially a massive homage to Dickens and other 19th century English novelists (Jeffrey Barlough's "Western Lights" series) (read it, it's brilliant)

NA I am taking this rec TO THE BANK, this sounds excellent. Also, ITA re: Dickens's style. I find his characters so incredibly relatable and his settings so rich.
