I drunkenly admitted to my friend the other day that I had a crush on her boyfriend. I went back today to apologize and she was all "I don't mind, I know you'd never do anything." I mean, she's right, and I'm glad she trusts me, but...she's not even the least little bit paranoid? Have I been watching too many teen dramas, or is this as unusual as I think it is? It's not like we've been friends forever or anything, I've only known her about half a year...

Maybe it's not so much that she trusts you, but because A) a crush doesn't make you an asshole, and B) she wouldn't have trouble cutting you off as a friend if you did try something, because she's not super-attached to you in the first place. Only her boyfriend giving you the time of day would be a problem.

I really want to believe that she cares about me enough to at least be upset if she had to cut me out...:( But you could be right. And I'm used to being more attached to people than they are to me, so it wouldn't exactly be unusual.

I did fail to mention that her boyfriend is one of my best friends -- in fact, if it weren't for him, I'd never have met her. The three of us hang out together far more than I see either of them alone. I don't know if that changes anything.

Well, it'd be 50% trusting you and 50% trusting her boyfriend so I'd say she's pretty good at picking her friends if she's got nothing to worry about :)

I had a similar situation with a friend when I was worried they'd be angry/paranoid that I hung out with their boyfriend (his suggestion, we have very similar interests) while she were away. She basically loled at me and was happy we were getting along and knows I wouldn't try to steal the guy or anything. I was confused, but so so relieved! I'd spent the whole time with him secondguessing it.

For the record, if you flat out tell her about the crush how would you be a threat?

Hell, she might be flattered.

Yeah, you've been watching too many teen dramas. A mature secure relationship can handle shit like this. Because she trusts you and she trusts her boyfriend, which is awesome and a really good statement about her relationship (and her relationship with you).

Like others said: she trusts you and her boyfriend. This is a good and mature thing!

Also, like chardmonster said: You admitted it to her instead of trying to make a move on him. She's probably reassured that you value her friendship more than pursuing your crush. c:
