If you're on a Mac (though I think they've developed it for PCs) you can use SelfControl, an ironically named program that blocks internet pages of your choosing if you have no self control. I use it all the time; I've blacklisted all the fanfic sites, tumblr, facebook, livejournal and so on. The best thing is that you set the amount of time for them to be blocked, and then even if you shut down the program and delete it off your computer, it'll still be running till the clock runs out. Best way to get shit done!

For non-Mac users, there's also a program called 'Freedom' (oh ha ha) that's a bit less subtle and just prevents you from going online for a set amount a time.

There's also a Chrome add-on called Concentrate.

I haven't checked out this particular version, but for blocking sites after a while, I use RescueTime for Firefox and StayFocused on Chrome. Usually it's just that one second headcheck to remind you not to get distracted, you know? And after a while, something you mindlessly checked all the time gets less "urgent".

You can beat it, OP!

There's a similar add-on for Firefox called LeechBlock that lets you block or delay access to pages of your choosing for any number of hours a day and/or between any hours of the day. You can also create several different block sets with different rules if you like (for instance, I have one set for online games, one for tumblr and other blogs, and one general go-to-bed-dammit set that blocks the whole internet for me. Very handy.
