The artwork in any comic goes a long way in determining whether or not I'll read it. Same with any animated show, actually. If something looks awful, I'm not going to willingly sit through it for anything.

Very few shows hold up to my standards these days. At least there are still plenty of well-drawn comics out there, though.

I enjoy Penny Arcade. They're expressive, to say the least.

Then again, this is a comic with a contraption that sexually assaults fruit as a semi-regular character.

I think the facial expressions are meant to run on Rule of Funny, but yeah, it can be kind of jarrring if you're not expecting it. The first time I read Penny Arcade I didn't like the art much either.

I agree... I loved his style in the past. but suddenly now it's uglier.

The expressions are meant to be cartoony and unrealistic. If that's not your cuppa, then... don't read it?

I haven't read Penny Arcade in years, but I love the art. It's very fun and expressive. If you don't like cartoonish art though, I understand.

I like it--but the "serious" comics they do look stupid to me. Like watching Ed, Edd, & Eddy perform Hamlet.

Heh, I find the expressions to be one of the best bits. There's just so many ways they express horrified, angry and creeped out, but make it hilarious.

I actually like this new style of faces, especially compared to the earlier strips.

I know the feeling, though. I keep hearing good things about Girl Genius, but I just can't stand the faces in that art style.

Man, the faces in Girl Genius aren't even a style! They just...squish out everywhere. It's weird-the backgrounds and shit are great, but then the faces are gross.

I am currently attempting to real Girl Genius after so many recommendation. It's good, but man, I will never like the faces; they're so squishy and fugly. >

I still cannot believe that something that hideous is published at all, it is just unabashedly awful, and not even consistently awful

it's like their creepy little teardrop eyes are constantly migrating about their face

I'm not a big fan of PA, but at least it doesn't suffer from B^U/same face syndrome.
