This is true! I keep thinking I'd love to go on adventures with the Doctor! And then I think "but then you'd probably be dead, or trapped somewhere in the past, and the Doctor would be sad!"

Falling into a hot tub while drunk is a lot more depressing a death than saving New York from monstrous life-eating aliens and then living well into my eighties with my beloved spouse. Or diverting a world-destroying freighter crash back in time to the extinction of the dinosaurs, not only saving the earth but salvaging the entire timeline of humanity. So it depends on how you look at it....

Yeah, but there's really no reason to think that your trip with the Doctor is going to end like the Ponds' did instead of with you being dead.

I suppose it depends on how you look at it. If you assume that fictional concepts like Protagonist Plot Immunity are legit RL things that apply to the universe around you when a fictional character appears, that IS a pretty good reason to think you won't die, or won't die meaninglessly.
