Take out "watching films" and replace it with "playing games" and you will come across tons of fanboys who refuse to play if they're are female characters not up to their standards of what is attractive.

That's an interesting assumption but...

I've never seen a game with a not-hot female lead so how would we know that for sure?

Just go to any SRK thread and you'll see that even generally attractive female characters are called ugly and/or fat by fanboys. This has included Jill Valentine's design.
