Unintentionally Disturbing Shows

This afternoon I saw "A History of Violence" was playing on cable. I remember going to see it in the theater with my mother when it came out (both of us having enjoyed Viggo Mortenson in LOTR and Hidalgo, and mistakenly thinking from the trailers it was a kick-ass action flick) and both of us commenting about five minutes into the movie that, with his built and jawline and hair cut/colored the way it was, Viggo's character really resembled my father. Like, a LOT.

Aaaand then the weird shit started. Graphic sex. Murder. Emotional abuse. We both walked out feeling really creepy and dirty and I couldn't look at my dad the same way for a while. I mean, I probably would've felt icky coming out of such a dismal commentary on human nature anyway, but having "my dad" do all that shit just made it so, so much worse.

Have you ever seen a movie that made you feel awkward and gross for completely unintended reasons?

I'm sorry for wanting to laugh at your story. Nothing like that has happened to me, though I do get disturbed seeing things in space sometimes. Realizing how small we are in relation to the cosmos always makes me shiver. And I like sci-fi so...

Maybe a bit OT, but once I watched the movie "Rumor Has It..." with my aunt, mom, and grandmother. Holy shit was it awkward.

Mom sleeps with dude, dude sleeps with daughter (who thinks dude might be dad) and later it is hinted grandma slept with dude as well. I was so skived out it wasn't even funny.

It was not a good movie choice at all for a generation of ladies to watch. I still get grossed out thinking about it.

Ah... Watching "Team America" with my parents. I was 16~17. It would've been awkward anyway just because I found it somewhat unfunny (and my mom had insisted we get it on DVD instead of Dodgeball, which is what my dad and I wanted, because she'd heard Team America was supposed to be funny)...

But then there was puppet sex, and...

(My dad and I made her get Dodgeball as compensation for forcing us through that.)

And slightly OT, but: your dad looks like Viggo Mortenson? Good for your mom! xD

I watched Black Swan with my mother, and then came the scene where Natalie Portman's getting all happy-me-time in her bed and she turns round and her mum's asleep in the chair right next to her. Cue a terrible case of the OH SHIT AWKWARDs for the rest of the film.
