Anything that goes on about how family's the most important thing no matter what and you should forgive them makes me SO fucking angry.

Maybe because I have a shitty family and we all practically hate each other and make each other miserable but I still fucking love them and can't make myself stop. And I know if they weren't my family I'd never want to speak to them but I literally can't stay away. It's like I've been brainwashed or something.

Haha, I hate this because it's what I was told every time my mother upset me growing up. "Oh, but she's your mother and she gave birth to you and she REALLY loves you."

It took me a very, very long time to de-brainwash enough to be able to say, "Then she should do something to show it."

Ditto. What I got was 'oh he's just a normal standoffish northern (English) father'...ahahahahaa no. I do feel like you need to have a certain kind of peace with it, but sometimes that involves being as far away as possible and not letting them into your life any more.

Oh yeah, the best way to get over my childhood has been to not be in the same room with my mother ever. We get along great that way.

I can relate. My whole family functions so much better and is so much happier when my dad isn't around. But then sometimes he's alright, and sometimes he cares so I can't always hate him. And then I feel like a bad person when I do hate him.
