Honestly, I don't know that much about their fandom reputation. Can some give me the dirty details?

Amanda Palmer... Well. I've heard reports she changed outfits on the red carpet (in front of the cameras), she's done a lot of pretty crappy things (like Evelyn Evelyn, trying to get professional musicians to play for her for free), and she's just generally an obnoxious brat.

yknow, i don't remember hearing any of this criticism happening before she got with neil. i gotta wonder if she was just saving her obnoxious brattery for marriage or if people are tripping bc she married half of good omens

I'm not a Gaiman fan and because of his involvement with her, I never will be.

I think she's just a horrible, attention-seeking brat. Maybe marriage made her worse, maybe not. IDK.

i see. personally i really like gaiman's writing but i know people have problems with that, too. can i ask what is it that's so horrible about her?

I actually really enjoyed the book Coraline. I haven't read anything else by him.

Her behavior... stripping on the red carpet is so classy! Then there's the Evelyn/Evelyn thing. And legally changing her name to "Amanda Fucking Palmer". She's just screaming for attention, and I don't think it's charming or cute. It's just sad and irritating.

In my case, it's before I had basically heard so little of her before she got involved with Neil Gaiman that I could ignore her. Her type of "art" and behavior is so typical of what I loathe in artists so I ditched her in my "ah ah NO WAY" mental bin right away. It wasn't really a nuisance since I'm not in the crowd that reveres her so I barely heard of it.

Her being associated to Neil Gaiman and him talking so much about her and her works in his blog (at times he spoke more of hers than his, you'd have thought it was her publicist's blog) is what made me assemble the bits I knew about her, and getting really fed up with her.

from what i remember (i was into dresden dolls in HS) she definitely has Performance Artist written all over her. all of the performance artists i know have a certain uhh. i can't even describe it. i can see how it could get irritating tho.

still, i have a soft spot for weirdos in love.

To be fair, she got changed after whatever event, so there weren't many people around, and the camera-people were yelling for her to change back into the outfit she'd been wearing earlier, aaaand Neil held up his jacket to shield her.

Not that I'm a big fan of Amanda Palmer, but there's just... more to the story. Not sure if it makes it better or worse though.

The musicians volunteered to play for free (I mean, she asked for volunteers obviously, but they understood and accepted that they wouldn't get monetary compensation and volunteered anyway), and they got free tickets to the show, free beer, the chance to hang out with Amanda and her band backstage, and the fun of playing a rock gig. None of the musicians objected to the arrangement! As fans of Amanda Palmer, they were probably thrilled. She has started paying them since the whole shitstorm happened, but I really don't see anything wrong with the original arrangement, since it seems like both parties got something good out of it.

She did change outfits on the red carpet, haha. I think the thing about Amanda is that she has a really strong, bold, slightly exhibitionist personality that bothers some people. I love her, so my response to most crazy things she does is a fond "Oh, Amanda!" (this doesn't mean that I blindly support everything she does, obviously, but I tend to enjoy her behavior as well as her music).

This. It's odd but not the most faily attention grabbing thing she's done. She's perfectly easy to ignore again now that Neil's settled down a bit from the courtship phase, and where they go from here is their business.

Because it's rude.
