I was really disappointed when I finally caught up to the Inspector Spacetime introduction on Community. I found it impossible to believe that someone like Abed made it to his 20s without ever having heard of the Doctor Who-equivalent before. It was never that obscure in US media fandom; and it was usually in reruns on US television.

I've had to fanwank it that Inspector Spacetime is, fandom-wise, more the equivalent of, like, Sapphire and Steel or Blake's Seven than Doctor Who. Which means a lot of the fanon goes out the window.

I made it to my 20s without hearing about Doctor Who. I turned 21, and BAM, a friend of mine loved it, and then another, and then by 2009, NO ONE STOPPED TALKING ABOUT IT EVER. I should note I was 25 in 2009, so.
