I so agree! And so many people seem incapable of imagining why they would trust Peter, when it was "obvious" he was weak, but they forget that Peter put loads of effort into becoming an animagus for Remus's sake, and kept his secret for 11 years (by that point). That's huge. If Peter was weak, he would've freaked out and ran the other way, or told people about it. He might not have been as talented as James and Sirius, but they clearly valued him as a great friend if they let him in on all their wrongdoings and illegal activities that could've easily had them thrown out of school.

I get the feeling they joked and teased each other like siblings do. Sirius even sort of mocked James in Snape's Worst Memory, and we know how much those two loved each other. I doubt Peter was resentful about it, though, because that definitely would've been brought up at some point for his characterization. I think Peter just... caved. When it was just them at school, it was easy to stand up against the dark side, but when torture and death became a real threat, his survival instincts kicked in and he lost sight of what really mattered.

Exactly. I tease my friends, too, but it doesn't mean I don't like them. In fact, if I tease someone it's because I DO like them and feel comfortable enough to make jokes like that. I don't know if Peter was resentful about it or not, but even if he was, I doubt it was strong enough to make him specifically betray his friends. He was just scared. That's what makes him an interesting character IMO, though of course I understand why people might dislike him.

And as for the Peter being "weak" - he wasn't confident, and I get the feeling he wasn't as academically talented as the rest of the Marauders, but you know what? They didn't judge him for that. That's why they were good friends. You're right, they wouldn't have included him in the Animagus thing or their pranks if they didn't trust him. If a fic has them basically bullying Peter because OMG he's so stupid/worthless, I stop seeing them as sympathetic characters.
