My mother said she wished I'd been abducted by aliens, made me believe - as an athlete - that I was fat (and it was my own fault), chucked my stereo speaker into the hallway when she caught me cutting, blamed me for my depression (which I only got help for because of the cutting), threw me out of the house for having gay erotica, briefly took me back only to pester me about when I was going to move out again, refused to house my partner and I when our living situation went to shit, then threw everything of mine out that I'd left at home when I moved across the country without asking me what I was planning on keeping, and promptly blamed me for her actions and refused to take responsibility for her mistake. I've not heard from her in about three years now, and frankly, I'm glad.

I admit I wasn't an angel of a child, and I recognize that she could have been much worse, but she was a toxic human being and no amount of "But she's your mother!" is going to convince me that she deserves anything but to be shown the door. My brother went to the furthest-away college he could get into without going overseas, and he's stayed there. My dad nearly committed suicide and only when he was on medication did he realize how horrible she was making his life. She was not a good person, and I've made peace with the fact that her whole family has fallen apart around her because of her own self-centered actions.
