I don't know how to do it either. I know there are ways to remove hissing and clicking from vinyls, for example, so I imagine noisy mikes can be dealt with in a similar way.

The timing thing is probably necessary*. Last time when you guys did the Be A Man vocaroo, I noticed that some people sang it faster than others so if the clips were mashed together, they would have been very obviously out of time.

*Unless we all pick a recording as a standard and record ourselves singing along to it. Then the timing would be a lot more in sync.

I do like your idea of picking a standard recording, though, that sounds almost easier then having to manipulate the time after the fact.
