A lot of people are generally tired of romances, so it's refreshing to see a friendship. While I understand why a lot of people like reading HoYay and LesYay into these things, there's so few female friendships portrayed well in cinema and TV that I'm always disappointed when fans of two characters I like are all about shipping them, rather than being BF5ever.

This. Or when fics seem to miss the point of the deep platonic bond they have in canon. It's lovely, why make it romantic?

+ 1,000,000 to this. I want an epic female friendship like burning, but I have no idea where to look to find one.

Nikita and Pretty Little Liars!

Okay, PLL is pretty much a hot mess now in terms of plot, but at least it's an entertaining hot mess? And four-way female friendship is great!

Few recs - Buffy and Willow (or Faith, since not everyone reads those relationships the same) in BtVS. Kate and Abby, followed by later season Ziva and Abby in NCIS. Jane & Maura from Rizzoli & Isles (as mentioned above). Anne and Diana in the Anne of Green Gables books. Xena and Gabrielle. The characters of The Golden Girls. Caroline to Elena and Bonnie in The Vampire Diaries. Lorelei to Rory, in that they had as strong a friend bond as they had a mother/daughter one. Laverne & Shirley, Thelma & Louise, and Lucy & Ethel if you were raised on (reruns or Nick@Night) showings of any of those shows. The chicks of The Ya Ya Sisterhood or The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Other ones I can't think of because it's very, very late here but I'm sure other people can jump in with :D

Heck, if there's good Baby Sitter's Club fan-fiction out there (I've never really looked) it's probably there too. :)

Parks and Recreation has a truly amazing friendship between Leslie and Ann. Also April pops up in there sometimes, kind of.

Ooh! Ooh! Revolutionary Girl Utena! (Series only, not movie.)

This is all true but aren't most bromances by and large turned into romance by fandom? And in the past several years, even canons do the whole queerbaiting thing.
