That's why I enjoy bromance. Because it's finally saying that it's OK for two men to have a platonic homoromantic relationship. That it's OK for men to be that close to each other. That those kinds of friendships should be embraced and not shied away from. That loving another man deeply doesn't always mean you're gay or fucking (even though it shouldn't matter if you are).
Obviously, not every bromance in fiction is without pitfalls. Some play the "but we're SO not gay!" thing too hard. But some are genuinely amazing. Like Hercules/Iolaus.

Because, really, how many times has this "I don't like bromances" secret popped up?

BUT when people go on and on about how bromance is the best thing ever and they don't like other kinds of friendship, I don't get that either. So I kind of see what you mean.

Not that there aren't white dudes that I love, because there totally are. But... it is 90% of what fandom is obsessed with.
And bromance isn't really novel. Men being touchy-feely isn't really novel either? These are such common tropes in fiction that I don't get what the big deal about them is. This isn't to say that a well-written romance can't be awesome, but I don't see why it's valued so highly above other relationships (possibly because gay).

I think it's popular because of two reasons, mainly; it's what's available, and both women and men are able to identify with the characters. Women read stories about both girls and boys from the start, and so have no problems identifying with and empathising with male characters. Creators know this, and since men aren't expected to be able to identify with female characters, they make most things about men, since men are the norm.
Until boys and men are expected to relate to female characters as much as girls and women now are able to relate to male characters, the imbalance will continue.
Lets not forget, though, that one of the most popular "bromances" have been between a man and a woman (X-Files).

Really? Try harder.
As for why people like "bromance" - some people like to read about platonic friendships. (It's not always two males, either. Could be two women or a man and a woman.) If you don't like it then don't read those fics.
