So Jane deserves a self-centered, immature brat who doesn't like having to put work in to a relationship, prefers to take and take, and grows bored easily? And this is coming from someone who likes Jake... but recognizes his very serious flaws.

He couldn't even be assed to contact her for months, and forgot her birthday. He only did when he needed something from her.

hussie has very heavily hinted that jake suffered considerable brain damage. i'm not saying he isn't acting like a douchecanoe, but if you haven't noticed the drastic differences in his behavior from his intro to current, can you really even call yourself a fan of him?? i don't get how so many people think he's all right in the head.

i'm not being "aggressive", i'm just pointing out how obvious it is that jake is not 100% okay. i don't even like the dude but it's clear to me he's brain-damaged to some degree.

Yeah, because clearly questioning my statement of being a fan of Jake because I don't follow your head-canon is totally not aggressive.

Anyway, to answer your question of 'How can you call yourself a fan of Jake when you don't subscribe to my headcanon concerning said character' is... quite easily!

Because your headcanon has absolutely no affect whatsoever on my ability to like a character.

He didn't put work into the relationship because he wasn't interested to begin with. Dirk essentially browbeat him into it.

There was a conversation where Jake specifically told someone that he regarded Dirk as more unavoidable than appealing. And given what Dirk did with the robot, and his severed head time loop, that was pretty much the impression Dirk was trying to cultivate.
