I'm not saying it's shit, but I just hope the art style is still somewhat like the original GitS series... I really like it :c

Off-topic, but every time I see your icon, I think it's under a Tiger and Bunny secret. And then I am saddened when it is not. :(

I'm sorry I give your hopes up anon :c I never have enough fandom-relevant icons.

I think the blue hair clashes a bit with the red outfit, but otherwise I really like her redesign. Motoko has pants now!

I haven't seen many people complaining about the redesign, but for some reason people seem really concerned that Motoko will be...moe-ified? Which is weird because that design is not even remotely moe.

...The only thing I dislike is the color choice and her hair doesn't look remotely styled. It's like she chopped it off with a sword.

Maybe she did? Girl was already pretty hardcore.

Which would make the design makes more sense, given who she is.

She looks like a younger version of the same character. Is that not what they were going for?

I'm actually super psyched about this design since I feel personally uncomfortable in super revealing clothing yet love Motoko to pieces. I will finally be able to cosplay her without feeling really weird!

...Of course I need to lose weight and make the outfit and all, but it's a possibility now and that's super exciting.

The first time I saw the new design, I thought: Wow, she looks so... bright (the color, I mean). But I certainly do look forward to this. And the news came out after I finished re-watching the entire TV series and the Solid State Society movie too, so I'm excited about this.

I liked the style of the TV series. I don't know if they'll still continue it for Arise, but part of me hopes so.

Best design for her is from the first film. And I like her design from Stand Alone Complex is passable. This one is crap.

Compare that to the secret image? SOOOOOO not the same style or design. I like the original far more than...that. B/

You've got to take into account the changes in anime art styles over time, though. The first movie was released in 1995. That's 18 years ago.

Take a look at any anime from the early 90s and even in realistic series and movies, you'll see greater simplification compared to 80s animation, with broader strokes of color and more easily animated shapes. Because of the advent of computer-aided animation, later 90s and early 00s started to move away from the simpler shapes into more finely detailed shapes as well as subtle colors and lighting, and now with almost entirely computerized animation, anime in the 10s tends to be fainter, finer, making use of shapes and colors that would have been a huge pain in the ass to do with hand-painted cels.

tl;dr It's basically the same hair style. The only real difference is color and 18 years of industry change influencing how it's presented.

People are whining about it? But she looks so similar to her first incarnation, just with a piece-y er haircut. I have no complaints and I'm happy to see her rockin' a tshirt instead of t&a everywhere. (Even though I love me some Motoko t&a)

Also I guess I'll confess that I'm not a big fan of her SAC/2nd Gig design.

WHOA. I am seriously out of the loop! When did this come out?! I am dying to know what Batou looks like (if he's even in the series, crossing fingers).

The new Motoko design and the people involved (none of which have been involved in GitS before) are all we know so far.
