You said you don't mean to sound mean, but...I don't know, it does kinda sound like you're berating (in lack of a better word) us ugly people for being ugly, like it's our own fault or as if there's something we can do about it. Because there very rarely is - one can care for their physical appearance (as in be clean, dress well etc.), but for some of us it won't change the fact that we are ugly. I mean, good for you if you're pretty (which I suspect you are if people say it all the time - which you should enjoy, btw, because some of us have never heard it), but I don't think we who are ugly are any worse - it doesn't mean that we have neglected our appearance or that we don't care about how we look, it's just the way it is for some of us, and no amount of pretty clothes or make-up will change it. It's not like we chose to be ugly.

There's only so much one can do about their looks. *shrug* Self-pity or not, it's true.

That was probably one of the most self-degrading comments I've ever seen. It's sad that someone thinks of themselves that way, but then they go on and on about it and it gets, well...

Eh, whatever, I don't want to start anything. Just ignore me. :')

I didn't say that people try to be ugly or something, and I actually believe that even if you weren't given the best base to work with, there's always something you can do. And even if you're like, "Whatever, that's shallow, I want people who like me for me," it doesn't change the fact that appearance is important, not just to how you feel, but to how people around you react to you.

The secret is that in real-life, I don't have very good self-esteem, because when I look in the mirror, all I can see are my flaws. But then I go online and take a peek at girls in fandom, and I just feel better, because so many girls in fandom refuse to take care of themselves. Women that don't wash their hair regularly, women who wear ill-fitting clothing or too much unflattering makeup -- it's kind of ridiculous.

Just because you weren't born beautiful doesn't mean you have to give up on yourself.
