*puts on therapist glasses* Perhaps it's a safety net, a way of distancing yourself. You don't have to worry about it ever being a real relationship because none of those things are real.

Yeah, came here to say this. Completely fictional and impossible characters are a safe way to explore sexuality or sexual/romantic feelings without it being attached to real people or possibilities. And that's okay! You don't have to be interested in actual people if that's not how it's going for you, it's only a problem if it's causing you distress. So have fun thinking about robots if you like and don't worry too much.
