I'm just saying, I see plenty of people misspell the names of authors or characters they LOVE. Some people just don't spellcheck names when writing informally online (or professionally, honestly). There's not always a deeper meaning.

I think they're more hitting at the fact you pretty much stated that not knowing how to spell a last name = not knowing how to spell, not that some people don't bother to spellcheck.

If the difference between not knowing how to spell the word you are writing and not knowing how to spell is that important to you, I will concede that I meant the former. Good grief.

Er...not remembering what the author's last name isn't not knowing how to spell. "Meyers" is a name people are more familiar with than "Meyer".

and I'm mostly used to the surname spelt as Myer(s). People write the version they're used to.
