Favorite (and Least Favorite) Series Finales!

So, yesterday there was a thread about your favorite season finales, not including series finales that came at a show's end.

So, how about this time, lets do a thread about your favorite series finales -- the last episodes of shows that have ended? And to make things interesting, how about list your *least* favorite series finales as well (because, unfortunately, a lot of good shows end really shittily).

The US version of Life on Mars had such a shitty series finale omg

M*A*S*H had a great one but that's probably an obvious answer

I'm going to use the end of series movie, rather than an episode.

I will always love Is it College Yet? as the ending of Daria. Not necessarily because it's perfect, but because it came out just as I was getting ready to leave for college, and I identified with Daria really, really heavily at the time. And I think it was a great ending for the show, as well.

darkmanifest mentioned The Real Folk Blues: Part 1 & 2 on another thread, so I'm going to say those. I'm having a hard time thinking of series finales that I loved, as most of them I liked at best, but wasn't extremely fond of. Cowboy Bebop's was excellent though.

I quite liked Legend of the Seekers? (From what I can remember of it, anyway.)

Actually, more recently, I quite liked Merlin's. It wasn't without it's faults and left me extremely sad, but overall...I was pleased.

Chuck's was good too, although not what I was expecting. Finales rarely are though.

The House finale was probably one of my least favorites (excluding the last 5 minutes. Almost everything before that made me rage).

Yeah I have so many mixed feelings about Xena's last season, but mostly it just makes me sad. And not in a good way. :(

The Scrubs season finale stands out in my mind as one of the best. Mostly that entire last scene (and that song, jfc) makes me sob like a baby every time I see it. But also because it wraps everything up, provides hope for the future, as well as being a retrospective for the series.

As for the worst... seconding the anon above that said LoM US. Cause, well, crap. It ruined everything else that had happened.

For the most part I'm happy with how all my shows have ended, except for Ashes to Ashes. I'm still not happy with it. I didn't mind the reveal (it was getting pretty obvious), but I didn't want Alex to go into the pub. It just seemed ooc for her to give up so easily and the better ending, imo, would been for Gene to go into the pub, and for her to take his place as DCI.

Oh my god, Scrubs, yes. That song has become so poignant to me since that, even though I don't tie it directly to that scene anymore. It's just so beautiful. The scene, too. I don't cry all that often at shows, but that was one of them.

I don't really have a favourite. Least favourite, though? Star Trek: Enterprise. They killed off my favourite character for no reason. Oh my God, it was ridiculous.

I'd also say Andromeda's, but the entire last series was shit, so yeah.

I will never forgive them for Enterprise's series finale. It was practically a TNG episode! They killed him for the stupidest reason ever! Archer was more obsessed with that stupid speech than the fact his best friend died and they never even showed us the speech to boot!

Ugh. Reason why I much prefer the tie-in novels, that finale is it.

I still want to stab things whenever I think of the finale of Quantum Leap.

The series finale of St Elsewhere annoyed me severely.

I kind of liked the finale to Magnum PI, and I really liked the finale to Due South. Sad and goofy as it was, I really liked the finale of House.

Good grief, I'm dating myself.... but I just haven't had the patience to stick out many shows all the way to the end. The ones I have, have all ended abruptly with no finale.

I am so right there with you on Quantum Leap. HOW DO YOUR SEPARATE YOUR ONLY MAIN CHARACTERS FOR 95 PERCENT OF THE FINALE, SHOW???? Plus, you know, the story stuff.

Journeyman is still the cream of my series-ending crop. And I really enjoyed the ending of The Sarah Connor Chronicles (though I certainly wish there had been another season there).

I hated the end of the Pretender -- but to be fair, that was a cancellation they didn't know was coming. I utterly despised the end of Quantum Leap. Like, there is no measure for my hatred. And I pretty much hated how the latter seasons of 21 Jump Street handled itself, and the end was final straw for my camel of disappointment.

I thought the Friends finale was disappointing, but I didn't actually hate it.

The DS9 finale is so frustrating- I've ranted about the problems of their entire S7 here in the past- so many things end the right way (Kira and Odo, Garak and Damar, and Worf in particular) but then they have to resolve the worst plotline (Dukat and Winn) in the absolute worst way. I can go either way on Sisko's resolution because the Emissary arc is so boring to me. I just feel bad for Kassidy and Jake. That whole season was so problematic. :\

Favorite: Star Trek TNG. (It just barely beats out M*A*S*H, because M*A*S*H had the special privilege of being a two-and-a-half-hour deal).

Least Favorite: Um, I actually can't think of one that I really hate?

I recently thought about this and realized that I've never seen a series finale I liked.

I was all kinds of ragey after the Merlin finale (why leave all the good stuff for the very last episode and leave so much out that should hhave happpened?) and the L word was just all kinds of fucked up and not at all an ending.

And Torchwood... by the time Miracle Day ended, I thought it was so bad already that I was just laughing at all the horrible scenes. I actually don't really count that series as being part of Torchwood any more, which leaves us with Children of the Earth and yeah, depressed for at least a week (it was my happy place before, okay?)

Come to think about it, I think those are all the shows I watched till the very end...

I was unimpressed with the finale of Seinfeld and also Will and Grace.

Seconding a lot of people here, loved M*A*S*H and ST:TNG and ST:Voyager.

Favorites: Alias, Scrubs, I remember liking parts of Friends and JAG, if not all of them, foggy memory there

Least favorites: Gilmore Girls (ugh), and this cool show John Doe that was cancelled after one season and ends on a gigantic cliffhanger forever

This makes me suddenly aware of how many finales I haven't seen of shows that I watched at some point at least semi-regularly. Weird.

Worst finale: LOST. The stupid cliched Heavenly Waiting Room after six years of intricate plot-weaving and character building was a fucking travesty. None of it mattered! All the character development, handwaved away by time-travel and/or the characters killed off for no reason. All that mythos, unanswered or ass-pulled. The entire meaning of the show's main themes of science v faith, choice v destiny, togetherness v solitude, mangled in a blender, ignored, or retconned. ARGH.

I've heard people complain about the end of BSG for similar reasons, but I saw the end of Lost first, and I nearly wept with joy at how competently BSG did it by comparison.
