Re: Reading actual books

I do this. I'll go through phases, usually. Where I'll get sick of fanfic and switch to books and go on a book reading spree. Or if I find a new series or whatever.

But I'm really picky about books and it takes a lot to keep my sad attention. Fic is a lot easier to browse and switch to something else if it's not keeping my interest.

Slightly OT: so the other day I actually ran across someone mocking someone else for reading books, calling them "oldschool" and trying to be "retro". So bizarre.

What. As opposed to reading on an e-reader or were they just mocking them for reading, period?

Yeah, they were mocking the person for reading physical books as opposed to a Kindle or other e-reader. It was very dumb.

Given that the majority of book readers in the Western world both haven't read an ebook and don't intend to...yeah, that's very fucking dumb. It's downright hipster.

I didn't realize you can label something people have been doing for centuries and what a majority still do 'oldschool'.

Right? And it's not like books are super rare or don't exist or something. It was just so strange.
