Re: Reading actual books

I read more fanfic because it's free. If I get 3 chapters in and decide to give up I haven't wasted my money on buying it (or have to organise free time to return it to the library. Kind of outta my way)

My trick for reading published books is to go to a secondhand store and read the $1 sections. I've found some goodies that way...like nearly every book of Michael Crichtons (bought 1, went back and bought another...rinse and repeat, bought all their michael crichtons)

...Read Michael Crichton. Congo was my favourite.

I second Michael Crichton, but suggest Sphere. ;) Nothing against Congo, airt.

ayrt

Read ALL the Michael Crichton! I've enjoyed all of them to different degrees, even the ones I didn't think I would or were different from what I normally read like Rising Sun and State of Fear.

Even the post-death publications aren't too bad. Might check out the joint author's works some time.

Seconding Sphere. It's very thought provoking and incredibly interesting.

Do you not have a library nearby?

It's not near any public transport and I don't have a car or bike. It's also the complete opposite direction to absolutely everything else and a 45min walk from my house. So that coupled with the time browsing and the 1.5 hour total walk time lugging a few books = normally not worth the time and effort.

Doesn't have a great range either.
