OCs can be done quite well. They're sort of necessary in some fandoms if you're writing something plotty, unless you want to rehash the same old villains.
And I will never understand the fandom attitude that characters who we have no more details on but a name and thus can be just about anything are somehow better than OCs, when in fact they are OCs with a canon name.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-27 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)Also people will be up in arms if you use an OC to fill a place in a plot but you won't get as much criticism if you bends and twist a character to fit in a role they don't belong in. When someone writes a self insert OC people notice and jump on the criticizing right away (and even characters who aren't self inserts) but when someone projects themselves into a canon character (Possession Sue) nobody seems to notice or care unless it's obvious. If it's a well written story they may not notice even if is a little obvious.
