That's why anon said "seems." And if there are Latino/a/@ people using "Latin@," obviously they take issue with the collective "Latino."

Sorry, but you're completely wrong about this one. I follow a ton of Spanish people on social media, and it is used by all of them (for words like anon above points out). And the people I follow are mostly (male) athletes. It's not SJW stuff, it's accepted usage in online Spanish.
