but as the anon said, how would anyone even know? dumbledore fell in love with grindelwald at a period in which he spent all his time with the guy discussing ethics and theories and magic locked in a room somewhere. it wasn't long before grindelwald peaced out, so who is to say that anyone else ever knew that dumbledore was in love with him? I always assumed he took his secret to the grave.

How about if Dumbledore told Harry himself? How about if instead of just saying "his ideas inflamed me" he'd added "and I was young and in love"? Seems pretty simple to me.
