Try playing Baldur's Gate. Edwin Odesseiron (a Red Wizard of Thay) talks like that. It's characterised in the audio as him muttering to himself. I think he even gets called out on it at one point in BG2 and seems surprised that anyone knows he's said those things, so maybe he thinks he's just thinking without realising he's saying it out loud.

I can't say for sure on this though, as much as I love BG, Edwin was never on my team much (I preferred to collect up a mostly Chaotic Good team, to match my favourite alignment to assign my Charnames).

Not familiar with that game, but your description of that habit just made me think of Kreacher from Harry Potter.

...and I think now, like OP, I'm going to be picturing parentheses dialogue as said by him for a bit.

It's not a new game, in fact it's over 10 years old, but there's still a huge modding community, and a smaller but still modestly active fic community (especially at GameJag). It's one of Bioware's early games, a Forgotten Realms one that is sibling to Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment and Neverwinter Nights.
