Well it must have some to do with where we hang out. I've been in places where there's a lot of defensive OC authors and a lot of people who think all OCfic is Mary Sue self insertion. It's automatically assumed by many if you say you're writing an OCxCanon fic that the OC is your author avatar and you're just pairing them with the guy you like.

(which is funny to me because two OCxCanon fics I can think of have my OC being male, and paired with a female character I find interesting but am not in love with)

I was honestly expecting a lot more harsh backlash from this.
