I see the similarities, but Amy's unlike Donna in practically every single other way. And nope. Those wedding similarities are completely unlike each other. The only thing similar about them is that they both involve weddings. That's like saying Martha was a rip off of Grace because they were both doctors who had the Doctor as a patient. The situations involving the weddings are completely, 100% different.

Also, Rose saves the universe with her brain too, and the way Donna saved the universe is WAY more similar to how Rose saved the universe than the way Amy saved it is similar to how Donna saved it. Not to mention the way the universe was manipulated to bring about the DoctorDonna is way more similar to how the universe was manipulated to bring about the Bad Wolf.

Does this make Donna's character or arc any less awesome? Nope. Because it has nothing to do with Donna as a person. Which you obviously don't care about.

But more than that, in a secret about Ten and Donna's wonderful friendship, why are you sitting there, spitting and clawing like a disgusting little bug, about Amy Pond? Why are you not reveling in the awesomeness that is Donna? Because you can't appreciate something on its own merits. You can only like something if you're bashing other things. That's what it seems like, anyways. If it's untrue, you shouldn't make comments that put forward that impression.

Having one similarity to another character doesn't make you a copy, no. But having that many thematic similarities to another character in the same series who was just on screen in the same role is gonna make me twitchy from a theatrical perspective. The weddings being different doesn't change the fact that thematically being a bride played a large part in both Donna and Amy's character arcs.

I revel in the awesomeness of Donna on most days. But today, I felt like being ranty. Sue me. I'm mostly on DW for the squee (anyone who's in Merlin fandom with me knows that) but everyone has a ranty day now and then. This is my Amy Pond one. You're welcome to not enjoy it.

The weddings being different doesn't change the fact that thematically being a bride played a large part in both Donna and Amy's character arcs.

That's...kind of some serious bullshit. If that's how it's going to be, then Martha is a thematic copy of Rose, because she was in love with the Doctor.

The way you're using the word "thematically," it can be applied to any passing similarity between two particular characters. You're grasping at straws because you want to be angry about something. And sure, no one has to enjoy it; but no one has to give you a pass about it, either.

Donna tried to get married in her first episode and did get married in her last. That isn't an arc, nothing about the reasons Donna wanted to marry had changed, at least on screen.

Whereas Amy was maturing into someone who would marry her husband and eventually spent the rest of her life with him. That is an arc. (Regardless of the skill of it was done.)

There is no theme that connect the two.
