This is how I read the secret too and I've been having the same feelings lately. It's not that fandom discussion isn't valuable, but I feel like some perspective has been lost. Even though TPTB are starting to see the value in engaging the fanbase (though not without plenty of missteps, like when the Teen Wolf tumblr told people to 'calm down') we're far from the majority audience! I have friends who don't understand reddit, comprehending a community based around sexual tension on some terrible genre show is going to be totally beyond a lot of people who nonetheless are the target audience for the show.

I've been browsing SPN fandom lately and I've never see the show but I know a couple guys who have. It's interesting to see how their totally casual view of the show contrasts with the overwhelmingly female fandom hivemind.
