(Anonymous) 2013-01-28 03:49 am (UTC)(link)I read it as they were ashamed to be connected to fandom because, outside fandom, people inside all kind of come off...a bit over the top? If you read anything written about fandom from the outside perspective they do paint everyone with the same brush and well...I can see where the OP would wish that, fandom as a whole, would become a bit more self aware after reading enough of that stuff.

For better or worse, fandom isn't in it's own box anymore. I'm pretty sure it's one of those things that the more people know about it, the more they are used to it, until it becomes merely geeky instead of horrifying.
But until that happens, I'll keep my hobby away from my real life.
