I thought they were thought of as brother and sister due to the way they introduced themselves. (ie. Roman surnames and all of that) I don't have the episodes on me right now, but I was thinking that it indicated that they were brother and sister.

Yep, they made the inevitable "I'm Spartacus" "And so am I!" joke, which indicated to the Roman family that they were, ah, the Spartacuses.

And then he assumed they were husband and wife due to having the same name and when they denied it, he said "Oh, brother and sister, then!"
