I always think it's weird when Rainbow Dash is refered to as the 'gay' pony. It's a huge stereotype that really doesn't do anyone any favors. There are lesbians like Fluttershy, Rarity, Twilight, etc, and there are heterosexual women like Rainbow. IDK. Of course MLP would never have a canonically gay character to begin with, so, to each their own.

And there are lesbians like Rainbow Dash, it does them a favor to see a character like them all decked out in rainbows. There aren't actually that many butch/sporty lesbian characters out there, or even butch/sporty characters that fans just like picturing being like them in that way. Heck, MLP is great just for having more than one traditionally tomboyish female character, and they're both lead characters!

Rainbow Dash is just Firefly with RD's character sheet. If JW didn't have the copyrights to the name "Firefly" RD would have bee pink with blue hair. :p

...But Rainbow Dash's original personality is not like Rainbow in the show. Rainbow Dash is just Firefly, and the only reason why she has a rainbow design is because 'Firefly' was copyrighted.

It is. RD was never meant to be a 'gay right's activist pony'. She's a tomboy character that the co-creator loved as a child and wanted to add to the new show, but couldn't under her original name. The fact is, is that a tomboy pony with rainbow hair was pure coincidence.

That will indeed by a huge disappointment to those that were expecting her to be the official gay mascot. It's almost not worth going to pride this year knowing it won't come with a Hub approved float of Rainbow Dash.

Okay, but why that particular pony has that particular color scheme doesn't change the fact that that particular pony has that particular color scheme. Seriously, how is it any skin off your nose if some lesbians want to count her in their numbers? Their fanon doesn't affect canon and has nothing to do with you.
