Re: OP Here

You know... how old are you compared to your family? Maybe they were intimidated by your parents and thought they shouldn't take a picture of their daughter? Assuming you're a girl, anyway, I know that sometimes I will shy away from asking for photos of kids at a con if I feel like the attention is unwanted. The older I get, the more I feel like a creeper for dashing up to some 14 or 15 year old for photos, full of excitement, even if I sometimes get mistaken for one as well. (I'm 31, for the record.)

I'm in my early-twenties, half the age of my parents and ten years over the age of my siblings, all of whom went and were asked for pictures. My little brother only had three lines of bright red paint on his face and people asked to take his picture. I don't know what I did wrong, I practiced my zombie makeup the entire year, I was so proud of it, but no one seemed to care.

Honestly, it almost kinda sounds like you are losing sight of why people do this stuff. Zombie walks are supposed to be fun and relaxed and stuff. It might be that your drive to have the perfect costume and be noticed for that is translating over into your body language and making you far less accessible than the people who just slapped some shit on and came for fun.

I have to agree with this. I went to a con once where this guy put together an absolutely amazing satyr costume. I mean, if you looked at him quickly, you'd swear he was truly a goat from the waste down. Unfortunately, he was completely unapproachable. I watched a few people go up to him, and he just exuded such pride and arrogance that they all came away looking uncomfortable. It wasn't long until people stopped going up to him at all -- and then he started to look visibly upset, which was a further turn-off.

I'm sure he didn't mean to come across the way that he did, but he clearly knew that his costume was great, and his attitude wound up matching that knowledge.

If you see this, OP, take heed. Others might be picking up on your drive for perfection, and it might be what's keeping them away.
