I have honestly never met a Blade or a Gunner, but I have met a ton of Hunters, Ryders, Walkers, Masons, etc. MANRY OCCUPATIONS. I think it's just an effect of - and this goes for the Mc/Mac names and the "-son" names - the modern trend of using last names as a first name.

That said I'll take those over the BILLIONTH "Emma" or "Jaden" on the playground.

STOP NAMING YOUR DAUGHTER EMMA OR YOUR SON JADEN. SERIOUSLY. IN MY DAY IT WAS "SARAH" AND "MATT" AND THERE WERE FIVE SARAHS AND FOUR MATTS IN A SINGLE CLASS. STOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP. THESE KIDS ALL HATED IT AND WOUND UP WITH NICKNAMES INSTEAD. SOME OF WHICH WERE UNFLATTERING. THINK ABOUT YOUR CHOICES.

What's so horrible about "Emma"? To me that's as vanilla a name as "John"

Nothing's wrong with it. Just like nothing's wrong with "Sarah". It's a fine name. It's very pretty.

It has just topped (or been in) the top ten baby names for girls FOR THE PAST DECADE starting with the kid born on Friends. It's already happening - at my cousin's preschool there are four Emmas, four Madisons, FIVE Jaydens, three Braydens, three Aidans, and three Sophies.

They're all going to wind up just like the Sarahs and Matts and Dans of my dad. Going by their last names or a (sometimes horrible) nickname BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE IS NAMED SARAH. And now Emma.

Ha. My husband's sister is a Sarah and she's married to a Matt. Worst case scenario for you here? ;)

No really - their two daughters are named Audrey and Olivia, which are perfectly lovely names...But they're going to have so many classmates with the same name, it's not even funny. :P

In my best friend's mother's high school graduating class there were 17 Lisas, so they all went by something else for the most part as I remember it.

To continue the irony, my mother is ALSO a Lisa.
