Annoying names
(Anonymous) 2013-01-29 12:19 am (UTC)(link)Aidan, Braden, Caden, Hayden, Jaden, Kaden, Zayden (I know Aidan is a legit Irish name, but all the rhyming crap has kind of ruined it)
Payton, Payten
Braelyn, Kailyn, Kailyn, Raelynn
Braylee, Caylee, Hayleigh, Jaylee, Kaylee, Kayleigh
Cadence, Kadence, Kaydense
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqPmPA4Vn_U
Or:
Madison, Madyson, Addison, Jackson, Harrison, Tyler, Taylor, Pierce, Lincoln, Grant, McKinley, McKenzie, McKayla, Kennedy, Kennadie, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Raegan
Or Mc/MacAnything on a girl, because it's something that comes from Irish and Scottish surnames and I think it means "son of..." And it makes it sound like you bought your kids at McDonalds.
And no, it's not clever to actually use "Danger" as you child's middle name.
And naming your son Blade, Gunner, Killer, or Manly Penis McWeaponson will not make him into a super-manly warrior guy. He'll probably go up to be an accountant or a cashier at Burger King.
Nor does spelling a name in a weird way make it "unique." Your little Braeghdynn will not stand out among the Bradens, Braedyns, Braydens, Braylyns, Aidens, and Caydens.
Oh, and Nevaeh should really mean Hell, since it's Heaven in reverse. If you can't just call her Heaven or something that means that, name her Lleh.
Re: Annoying names
But I do agree that there is a surplus of -en names about. I feel bad for educators during this time.

Thank you for suggesting Manly Penis McWeaponson, that's one I've never heard before and I think it has a lovely ring to it.

Heehee... I have two fandoms now with a "Jackson" (as a first name) in them, and I like both of them. Er, both Jacksons, that is. (-:

- wait, Nevaeh? People seriously name their kids Nevaeh? Oh yes, spelling things backwards to make a new name is oh so mystical and unique.
Still.... the mental image of a tiny little Nixon Reagan is too precious to go unrealized.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-29 01:14 am (UTC)(link)The only names I have problems with are "alternative" (as in wrong) spellings of common names.

Re: Annoying names
I was surprised when my daughter was telling me names she liked and Joanne was one of her favorites. She picked some pretty old-fashioned and 'plain' names - nothing like me when i was a kid!
Re: Annoying names
That said I'll take those over the BILLIONTH "Emma" or "Jaden" on the playground.
STOP NAMING YOUR DAUGHTER EMMA OR YOUR SON JADEN. SERIOUSLY. IN MY DAY IT WAS "SARAH" AND "MATT" AND THERE WERE FIVE SARAHS AND FOUR MATTS IN A SINGLE CLASS. STOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP. THESE KIDS ALL HATED IT AND WOUND UP WITH NICKNAMES INSTEAD. SOME OF WHICH WERE UNFLATTERING. THINK ABOUT YOUR CHOICES.

Re: Annoying names
(Anonymous) 2013-01-29 05:41 am (UTC)(link)Other than that, some names are really easy to twist into cruel nicknames, and you have a statistically harder time getting hired with a hard-to-pronounce name than you do with a common or easy-to-pronounce one.
