I understand what you're saying, but on the other hand, everyone relates to everything differently. Some people might find Show X to be really deep and meaningful to their life and whatnot, but somebody else might find it shallow and trite. There are certainly people of all races and experiences who can find meaning in music, no matter who it's by or its genre, but I think rap/hip-hop, moreso than other genres, end up with this sort of dissonance because some of it is so literal and specific. Sometimes the music isn't meant to be relatable to a wide audience; sometimes particular experiences just can't be related to except by people who've been through the same thing or similar. It's not so much that it's more alien, it's just much more specific and grounded in real experiences that you can't make your own interpretation of it.
