(Anonymous) 2013-01-30 02:09 am (UTC)(link)It's way too easy to read a description on the internet and think you fit it. It's like reading a horoscope. You start to believe it even if it's not true.
I'm so sick of people reading some stupid crap on the internet and thinking they have it. It trivializes those that actually suffer these illnesses by throwing around the terms like you have medical training.
You may be depressed but YOU NEED TO SEE A PROFESSIONAL and have THEM determine that. Not wikipedia or whatever -- not even NCBI or Mayo Clinic. A website is not a doctor and if it was, we would have no reason to have med school anymore.
Sorry to be so harsh but I really do think you need to see a doctor, not fandomsecrets.

My mom was the one who pushed me to get help and I REALLY didn't want to. There's a lot of stigma about seeing psychologists for help and being on medication for depression and I was really afraid for it. It's possible OP is going through something similar. Outside perspective also helps.
I agree that self-diagnosing is a bad thing, but that's if you stop at the internet part, refuse to get real help and tell everyone "omg I have x bad thing". The internet can be a GOOD start for helping you realize what your symptoms point to; the doctor is the next step.
