Re: PONY REACTION THREAD
And I love all those toys, oh mah g.
But either way, I'm just glad they've come down on that studio. No more crazy brony pandering.

Re: PONY REACTION THREAD
All things inspired by the fandom. Of which, wouldn't be so bad on their own, but being related to Bronies has ruined it all. At least for me. Which is why this season has been a breath of fresh air, outside Trixie and Discord.
Re: PONY REACTION THREAD
And lots of kids shows have shoutouts and homages to movies? Plus there was no way they weren't bringing Discord back, that's just good writing.
Not everything the fandom likes is pandering. Some of that's just good writing. And the show is beloved as far and wide as it is because it was something more then just the little girls could like.
I think as shows for little girls go it was still doing a lot of stuff for the target demographic anyway? But if it does indeed start to laser focus on that, I think you'll see more then the disappearing of bronies. You'll find yourself losing interest in the show as it becomes just another kids show.
Writers who have highly successful shows generally should not be given less control for being successful.
Edit: To clarify my position: Pandering or not, people got interested in this show in the numbers and ages they did because it's a DAMN good show universally. Faust created a family show, the same way Disney creates family movies: yeah kids can watch it, but their parents can watch it with them and actually enjoy it. So when mandates start coming down (and especially when those mandates are "sell more merch" reated) on a show that's been doing fine, you can see the writing damaged. And that could we be an end to more then just the parts you consider pandering.
Re: PONY REACTION THREAD
(Anonymous) 2013-01-30 05:07 am (UTC)(link)I suppose it all comes down to who matters most, and frankly I don't think it's the adult (mostly male) fanbase. When I was a kid back in the 90's I had some awful 'girl' shows, but they were still fun to watch. And it was nice to have an all female cast for a change. You may not like what Hasbro is doing, but that's just how it is going to be, like it or not.
Re: PONY REACTION THREAD
The main cast is still all female? I'm not sure what you are saying there, I don't think that was ever going to stop being a thing.
And there is no who. Only a what. Money. Hasbro wants money. If the show is crap and still makes them money, they won't care. If season 4 is acclaimed as the best season yet and makes no dosh, it's fucking dropped.
Hasbro is not getting involved to chase away the bronies or because somebody with creative vision there is trying to help. They are trying to sell more toys, period.
I don't expect to change anything. I mean I suppose internet clamor has influenced the show before, but it's more then likely that that age is over, for better or worse. I'd like to say for better. I hope season 4 is great. But I fear we will see new, poorly thought out directions based more on "have more merch" then "have more plot" and that we will subsequently not see a season 5.
Re: PONY REACTION THREAD
(Anonymous) 2013-01-30 05:37 am (UTC)(link)I'm sort of sickened that all these adults (Again, mostly male) are calling for it to be canceled. As if they show was ever meant for them. It wasn't. Even if part of the show is being pushed towards merchandise, the show's demographic is for little girls. That isn't about to change.
Re: PONY REACTION THREAD
I didn't. And a loss in quality of a good show is always lamentable. Kids can tell when things stop being as good too. If it will or wont I have no idea. But I've less faith in Hasbro then I'd like. Especially since one of their decisions is a major change in the main character and the shows dynamic. Not to mention that twilight princess alicorn doll saying shit like "I love having my hair brushed." that sounds like going backwards for a character who up till now has been presented as primarily bookish.
Demographics aren't quality. Quality is quality. The show may not have been designed for me but I liked it anyway. If I stop liking it because it changes, I can and will lament that change. Online at times.
