It wasn't really all that funny in the first place.

What chardmonster says about the aracial thing is true, but they neglected to mention that it's pretty much a copout since there are many subtle indicators in canon that Hussie thinks of them as white even though he didn't necessarily mean for them to be. It's an understandable thing, coming from a white person, but it's a little cagey that he didn't own up and admit it.

The problem came from Hussie making fun of it in a way that seemed kind of insulting to people with nonwhite headcanons for the kids, and those assholes who've never liked nonwhite kid depictions just ran with it and were incredibly nasty to the people with those headcanons. A number of popular POC kids artists quit the fandom over it. These assholes are the ones who made Hussie change it, as he said himself, despite the fact that they froth at the mouth that it's all the fault of "SJ sallies."

Oh I'm more talking about how certain parts of fandom seems to think Hussie owes them their headcanon. And if Hussie doesn't give them that headcanon then he's racist, sexist, etc, etc.

I'm really sick of seeing people whine about their precious headcanon's (and I mean the mostly white 15 yrs old and 20 something allies) being destroyed. Hussie literally owe us nothing. He gives us free entertainment.

Also criticism is not sending hate mail saying someone a racist asshole and should kill themselves. Which I'm pretty sure Hussie got, and I know several people that refused to get up in arms about the whole damn trickster shit got (and seriously all they did was refuse to comment).

I don't think there's anything wrong with Hussie changing the word. However, "I FEEL SO CAUCASIAN" doesn't really seem like even saying white is a good thing. You could even be saying the whiteness is making it creepier, like a cheesy after school special. Everyone's white and happy and brightly colored and nobody has real problems that aren't solved within an hour.

The idea of Dave the somewhat embarrassing white rapper is funny. There, I said it. White rap is often embarrassing.

Also--the issue is that this is a serial story that's taken several years to get through. Any acknowledgment and endorsement of fancanon is going to look cagey in that timeframe. It isn't a book he's eventually publishing.

I mean, it makes sense to be angry that none of the kids are nonwhite but that seems like tokenism; like some kind of Captain Planet team model of diversity. Isn't it better to say that the kids don't have a canon race and then include a variety of races in the official publications? If he went and retroactively gave the kids races or did that with the new ones he'd likely be criticized for getting it wrong. "How dare you make the kid with glasses asian" or "how dare you make the african kids recolors of the normal body type" when this is how he draws everyone including greyskinned aliens.

Leaving the fandom over shitty fans isn't exactly Hussie's fault. Are shitty bronies the fault of season one MLP writers?
